A new housing tower is set to be built on the western edge of the former World Trade Center site in Manhattan.
The project will be part of a $20 billion plan to transform the site into one of the city’s most economically vibrant neighborhoods.
It will be one of several high-rises planned in Manhattan’s trendy Williamsburg neighborhood.
The tower will be made up of approximately 1,600 units, including one- and two-bedroom apartments.
It will have more than 20 stories of mixed-use space and retail space.
It’s slated to open in 2021.
“We’re building a vibrant, vibrant city with an active, dynamic city, with a vibrant skyline,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said at the announcement.
“This will be a place where everyone can live, work, and play.”
The tower is part of the $20 Billion High-Density Development Program.
The city will be responsible for providing $1.5 billion in incentives to developers to build affordable housing and office space.
The plan includes $1 billion for affordable housing in Brooklyn, $500 million for affordable affordable housing projects in Manhattan, $250 million for housing projects for women and children, and $100 million for development of a park.
It’s expected to be completed by 2021.
